“I would like to provide some feedback on Blossom Ah Ket who assisted me at Court with interpreting. She was absolutely fantastic and I can’t praise her highly enough. She assisted me in a very stressful situation, dealing with a very vulnerable client and was polite and professional at all times. She made a very difficult day considerably easier, and was fantastic to work alongside.”

“I had a great experience working with Blossom. She assisted me with interpreting for a Spanish-speaking client who was applying for a protection visa. Not only is she excellent at interpreting from English to Spanish and Spanish to English, but she is also a very compassionate person. This is particularly important when working with refugees. I will definitely engage Blossom to assist us with future Spanish-speaking clients.”

“Blossom has assisted our firm to interpret from Spanish to English and vice versa with a client currently on remand. She has been very professional and accommodating, often agreeing to assist last minute and from a convenient location for our lawyer/barrister who are often on the run between court cases. We would highly recommend her interpreting services for any legal matters.”

“I am writing this letter to recommend the interpreting and translation skills of Blossom Ah Ket. Blossom's specific skill set is the communication of the Spanish Language. She is however not limited to excellent in the moment dialogic explanations but is also skilled in the translation of the written Spanish word, poetry from English to Spanish and vice versa and communication within a wide variety of Indigenous cultures within the Spanish speaking diaspora.
I was fortunate enough to have Blossom engaged as my interpreter for an Indigenous cultural exchange through Chile in 2017. Throughout this time, Blossom was required to translate in many challenging environments such as inside prisons, for official panels & in group conversations. Her unique skill set enabled me to have the important conversations necessary to facilitate the trip, ensure my personal safety, explain important changes to scheduling and assist in the documentation of the exchange to Spanish and English speaking persons. I can personally attest to the high quality of Blossom’s skills and provision of translation services and would not hesitate to recommend her for any role within the translation and interpreting field.”

“It is my pleasure to recommend Blossom Ah Ket for a position as translator from Spanish to English in the academic field. It is evident that Blossom seeks to challenge herself by doing committed and diligent work, which is reflected in her understanding of and respect for cultural nuances. Her awareness of linguistic and semantic complexities, especially in relation to the concepts of agency, and the relationship between object and subject, show her dedicated attitude towards her work, linguistically in Spanish but also her intellectual curiosity for the particularities of the language of the region she lives in. Her personality is warm and committed, which complements her academic abilities. She has admirable discipline and is always on time with her deadlines. I am very confident that she will be very successful in her work. Blossom is capable, kind and thorough, so she has my highest recommendation for this job.”
Experience
Blossom has worked for over five years as a NAATI certified Spanish interpreter and translator in legal and community health settings.
She has developed an in-depth knowledge of specialised legal terminology and Australian judicial procedures across all levels of courts in areas such as criminal, family and migration law. Blossom has often been engaged by law firms to interpret client interviews and legal advice, and upholds privacy and precision as paramount values. Her participation in police interviews, court cases and mediations has developed her ability to adapt and excel in high pressure situations. Her experience includes translation of legal documents, evidence and transcription. She has extended her skills in this area by undertaking professional development such as workshops run by RMIT on ensuring impartiality during forensic transcription.
Within a community health context she has worked within hospitals, specialist clinics and medico-legal panels such as WorkCover and WorkSafe as well as with vulnerable clients in mental health settings, aged care, and neurological assessments. She has been especially enriched by the role that an interpreter can bring to therapeutic relationships in areas such as maternal child health, psychology, and family violence counselling.

As part of this, she is developing workshops and podcasts for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) residents impacted by the pandemic.
She has worked as a consultant with companies and organisations on intercultural communication. This has included how to create text for translation, how to work with interpreters as well as how to improve the cultural and linguistic accessibility of resources and content. Another aspect of this has been outreach to foster greater engagement with and services for CALD people.
Blossom has also participated on site with projects in Colombia, Mexico and Chile. Working with the audiovisual collective Entrelazando, she participated in research and preparation as a fixer during the production of documentaries in Mexico and Colombia, and subsequently composed the English subtitles for these films. I live and work in Naarm (Melbourne), specifically on the unceded Wurundjeri and Bunurong lands within the Kulin nations. I acknowledge both these peoples as the traditional custodians of their lands and waters and I offer my respect to their elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded and colonialism is an ongoing project. This always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.
